It all started with two men, a 69’ Volkswagen bus, and one of their girlfriends throwing out their favorite old t-shirt…accidentally of course.

Marine Layer has quickly become a customer favorite around here. With vibrant colors, flattering cuts and their crazy soft fabrics it’s easy to see why. Of course, we love Marine Layer all the more for their innovative and sustainable methods of creating their well-known materials.

“When we say our stuff is soft, we really mean it.
It’s not like ‘oh, this feels nice’ soft.
It’s “holy sh#% how did they make this, I’m never taking it off” soft.”

What sets Marine Layer apart from other brands is the materials they employ in creating their clothing. They've custom-designed over a hundred fabrics, and that number continues to grow. Among these, Tencel Modal stands out, made from beechwood pulp, chosen for its ability to maintain clothing's shape and color. There's also Tencel Lyocell, which is not only 100% biodegradable but also cooler than linen. Their most frequently used material is Upcycled Cotton, utilized in their Re-Spun fabric.

Marine Layer created a tee recycling program called Re-Spun to help reduce waste on our planet. 84% percent of clothing ends up in landfills while 95% is recyclable. Recognizing this problem, Marine Layer took action and currently turns old tees into your new favorite tops. They’ve diverted 475,000+ tees from landfills and have saved 2.6 billion gallons of water using Re-Spun cotton.

We take pride in partnering with brands who value both people and the planet, all while offering pieces that make you look and feel your best. Marine Layer is an excellent example of just that! Below you can find a few of our favorite Marine Layer pieces available now in store and online.
